Call for Script on Rung Documentary PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 15 March 2010 03:06

Yesterday RKS held a meeting at Shri N S Napalchyal ji's house. Meeting was mainly called to discuss issues related to AGM 2010 in Pangu.

During this meeting an important information was shared by RKS patron and General Secretary. There would soon be a project for making documentary on Rung community. This would be funded by RKS.

Such an important documentary would need to have a very in-depth and balanced view about Rung history, culture, traditions and language etc.

RKS patron suggested that we select some people from each of the vallies and these people would suggest valley specific ideas to be included in the script.

We feel that all Rung Mung should participate in this process by giving their ideas and maybe we can whittle them down in a framework.

This is a call to all rung mung to send us your feedback by way of comments, mails, blogs  or even phone calls .. whichever mode suits your convenience.

Dear Krautela, Here is the direct link to the PDF of the dictionary (I hope you have fast internet) for free downloading. It's in an internet journal:
http://himalaya.socanth.cam.ac.uk/collections/journals/ret/pdf/ret_18.pdf
Tinyurl for the same: http://tinyurl.com/37nw79j
Go to the last part of the introduction for the list of words that are shared by Darma and Zhangzhung (but very different from Tibetan). I haven't learned these languages before (I studied Sanskrit and Tibetan for many years), I had to rely on some new dictionaries, like the one for Byangsi:

Gopāla Siṃha Boharā & Balarāma Prasāi, Byāṃsī (Raṃ)-Nepālī-Aṃgrejī Ādhārabhūta Śabdakoṣa (Byansi [Rang]-Nepali-English Basic Dictionary), Gopāla Siṃha Boharā (Lalitpur 2008).

My best!

Dan

hey dan
thanks for sharing that link, i couldnt find the online dictionary though. I have heard the references for zhangzhung( is pronouncec as shangshoong? ) but have seen the one to one comparision. would love to see one to comparision of both languages and maybe there is historical connect for all of us.

Dear Sirs and Madams, This tinyurl link:
http://tinyurl.com/27rk3hk
will take you to Tibeto-logic, where I recently put up a blog on Zhangzhung language. You will find a link there to a free online dictionary that includes a lot of references to Darma and Byansi and Chaudansi. Zhangzhung is a western Tibetan language that was written a thousand years ago (and more) and has quite a lot of vocabulary in common with your Rung Mung languages. Best of luck!
