Hi All

It has been too long since we blogged on RM. Hoping to see some action in 2012, after people do get tired of FB :)

RYF aims to be a common platform where Rung Youths would associate with each other and contribute in the building of our Rung society through mutual interaction, cooperation and group action. We believe that the time to get ready for tomorrow is today. That's what our vision is all about. It is about creating a ‘Road map’ for our youth and assisting them in reaching similar destinations as planned by the RKS.

Vision, Mission and Objectives

Vision

Our Road map starts with our mantra, which is endurance. It declares our purpose as an organization and serves as the standard against which we weigh our actions and decisions. Our Vision is :

  • To Refresh the minds of the youth and safe guard our culture

The Shepherd - Snippets from a Dream

This poem is from my blog http://rambo-fromthetipofmytail.blogspot.com/, which chronicles a decade of Rambo, his exploits, reminiscences and what I imagine to be his confessions. Rambo is on his 13th yr, and having put the irreparable loss of a forelimb behind him, he is going from strength to strength. The exploits may be few and far between, but he still retains the zest of yore. The first decade was a relentless saga of truants, duels and him inviting all kinds of trouble. These have made for countless comic, tender, gut wrenching and above all memorable moments. Am taking the liberty to write this on his behalf for all the trouble he has got me into, including facing the ire of some of his most dangerous canine adversaries. They couldn’t get at him so they tried to get the better of me.

This poem in particular is dedicated to all the pets we’ve had in the family over 3 generations.

Micro-finance

Ever since I heard about the story of how Dr. Yunus started micro finance in early days, I had wondered why we cant do the same to help people around us.

In order start such a thing formally we may have to go through quite a bit of red tape but that doesnt mean we cant start such a thing informally.

So here is an offer to any rung who needs small help in starting some venture.

  1. Me and a few friends are ready to finance poor families for starting out economic activities.
  2. Loan size would be limited to Rs. 5000 in the begining.
  3. We are yet to work out the repayment terms and mechanisms
  4. After person pays out the first loan, his next loan can be increased to Rs. 10000, depending on his performance.
  5. Cost of collection in small micro finance activities is big portion of operations hence we are going to need society to help us in collecting the loan back or beneficiary to come and deposit the repayments himself/herself.
These are the first few thoughts on this. We need people in Dharchula and further up in villages to start spreading the word.

Shyaa Sying ... .. .

The tree looked familiar to me, though the leaves were a bit thinner and smaller in size, and branches were straighter than what I had usually seen.  I gazed on it from my window for a while, made it sure and then murmured “Shyaa Sying  ... no it’s not … haan haan … it is actually yaar”. I picked the keys, rushed out of apartment and got near to the tree, peeled the bark off… and as I felt the touch of that “Khula Paato – Bhoj Patra” I could not hold my excitement. I walked further and looked around, to my amazement there were plenty of them…so many Shyaa Synings …wow… a mixture of emotions rose inside me nostalgia, excitement, happiness, loneliness, a feeling of sudden discovered treasure, a feeling of missing someone to share the joy… and this wasn’t it few moments later when I was walking by the road I saw “Shyuma Paato”, “Beera Chye”, “Thaawe”… and many more.  It was all like reuniting with the friends I had left long back and very far.

It’s strange that how important are things we are emotionally attached to… be it a human being or a plant or anything for that matter. The kind of ecstasy we feel while meeting or seeing them is heavenly, and the way we feel connected to these speechless forms of nature is truly beyond the words. And in case of Shyaa Sying it means more than that… it’s our root. In Darma it is part of life...part of culture… part of civilization… part of our existence.

PS: Every time I call home or friends back… I find immense joy in telling this special thing about London among the others like tube, bridge, Thames, people, traffic, and weather.

A Sea Lover's Diary...

The Sea

Though I am tempted to walk
I remain seated on the sands,
Like a specter in the evening,
Loneliness for a silhouette.
Have traded innocence with age
And I am not any wiser.

The horizon lies in the shadows
Somewhere, beyond the growing waves,
Beyond the flickering boat lights.
Waves with each foray reclaim
Another stretch of the sands.
And finally, with the last of their breath
Wavelets kiss my toes.
I get up to sit out of their reach
Only to realize I wanted to walk,
Hear the sea, feel his breath

The Charlatan

Quell the desire to express,
You charlatan of a poet,
For it was only the muse’s beauty
That gave your unintelligible words
Some semblance of a verse.
And you, the semblance of a poet.

Uttaranchal Birds, Picturing a Verse..

What I miss most about staying in Uttaranchal is the daily interaction with Nature. Had an opportunity to stay in Gopeshwar for a while, which was a memorable experience even though I was an infrequent visitor. On any given morning, a discerning eye could spot so many different species of birds in the garden and in the nearby trees. It was like being in a National Geographic feature. Of course the lush garden that Ba keenly nurtured did its bit to attract our feathered friends but residing in Uttaranchal has its pastoral merits. It was quite common to spot Ba very early in morning, at the window or in the garden, behind the lens.  The poem titled ‘The Window’ captures those moments and the photographs here are a result of those ventures.

The photos are accompanied by a verse or two, inspired by the pictures. Hope the verses will do justice to them.
