Ever since I heard about the story of how Dr. Yunus started micro finance in early days, I had wondered why we cant do the same to help people around us.
In order start such a thing formally we may have to go through quite a bit of red tape but that doesnt mean we cant start such a thing informally.
So here is an offer to any rung who needs small help in starting some venture.
- Me and a few friends are ready to finance poor families for starting out economic activities.
- Loan size would be limited to Rs. 5000 in the begining.
- We are yet to work out the repayment terms and mechanisms
- After person pays out the first loan, his next loan can be increased to Rs. 10000, depending on his performance.
- Cost of collection in small micro finance activities is big portion of operations hence we are going to need society to help us in collecting the loan back or beneficiary to come and deposit the repayments himself/herself.
These are the first few thoughts on this. We need people in Dharchula and further up in villages to start spreading the word.

It has been a while since AGM in Pangu. This was the first AGM held in any Rung village and it became evident in the way not only the even was organized but also in the attitude of participants.
Lasting memory for me have been two. One was the walk around the villages like Rhimjim, Rongto and Pangu School. This is probably first time when we had time to look around the village and school. There were some people from Pangu and nearby villages who have not visited Pangu school in a long time. Views from Pangu School and Rhimjim were so breathtaking that I just wanted to live there :).
Second was the improptu mehfil session at one of the hotels (as we call them in our area). It was after election of the new central committee of RKS. People had gone in different directions from the venue after the election but a group gathered in this hotel. When we landed there mehfil was in full swing. Dr. Gagan Sonal and Suresh 'Guddu" Napalchyal were at their mehfil best. It was so good that people started digging into their wallets and money came pouring onto a plate ( which also appeared magically from somewhere). Mood was electric to say the least which prompted our serious looking Arvind hya into surprising us with a few urdu couplets. Then came chhupa roostam of the night Kishore Kutiyal 'Keshwa'. He presented Rung couplets so touching that even elderly people started digging into their wallets :) I wish i had recorded this sessions so that you all would have had first hand experience ( and would not have had to suffer this inadequate narration from me)

I have been really heartened by individual efforts of yogesh ( both), pankaj & puneet in recent times. They surely have kept up Jyodmung flag up.
But overall the collective energy of jyodmung is missinng.. thats what i feel and i maybe wrong .. and i hope i am wrong.
facebook, orkut etc. have made us social .. but also made us individualistic to a great extent. Hope to see something from jyodmung .. something that will make us feel jyod again :)

As reported earlier on the site, Felicitation of Mr. N S Napalchyal, Ms. Kavita Budathoki & Mr. Loveraj Dharamsattu was held on 13th December 2009.
We had received these photos from Mr. Arvind Hyanki recently. We couldnt upload earlier due to changes being made on the site. Now we are trying to upload these slowly ... ( 5-10 photos) everyday.

RKS is looking for good photos of Bungba Villages. Most of the villages have been covered except for missing ones like Jhai, patti, Samare, Kureela, Bungba, bungbung etc.
If anyone has a photo to share please send to rungmung@gmail.com and it might find its place in Amtikar.

Rung Mung has always been an effort to get community together. We want people from community to come forward and express their opinions.
Jooni, our blogging component has been liberating tool in that effort. In early days we had such explosion in terms of articles written by Rung Mung. But in recent times most of Rung authors have either been sucked into real life or gone on to create their blogs in different places.
Real life sometimes is such a drag :) Mundane things tend to eat up our time. We are left such little time to introspect and reflect upon things close to our heart. I dont mean that virtual world is better .. but it really helps us grow beyond boundaries of time and place.

Recent tragedy in Munsyari area has once again made us aware as to how fragile is our existence in Himalayas. We have suffered similar fate in Malipa not very far back in the past and every year we have atleast one or two such incidents.
I am always reminded of story my mother used to tell us about how once in our village they had to run for their lives when similar flash floods wreaked havoc in our village. I think we are lucky to be alive and our Gods must have some part to play in it.May god rest souls of these victims in heaven...!! Hope science gets us some relief from these calamities some day soon.
