I am sure everyone back in India must have already heard of him... I will be surprised if you still havent.. for myself I am just coming back from one of my friends apartment listening to Rabbi for the first time.. a year after it was released in India.. and for sure I am already a fan.. Punjabi Sufi as it is termed has such soulfulness and tranquility... though the lyrics are in Punjabi one cannot resist humming along.. have never been ardent listener of punjabi tunes but trust me this one is different.. its a self titled album called 'Rabbi' by Rabbi Shergill... One can read more about him here A little sample... tere bin sanu sohnia koi hor nahio labhna jo dave ruh nu sakun chukke jo nakhra mera....

I have been out of the blogging scene for quite some time now.. reason being I havent been cooking these days.. (just kidding).. perhaps it was more of lack of time and other regular mundane stuff that keeps you rolling all day long...
but the truth is I have been avoiding eating all the junk I used to earlier.. some of those ready made palak paneer, rajma masala, chicken tikka, etc.. (I did love them though.. ) instead I thought of switching over to eating healthy.. (I did make that sort of my new year's resolution.. have never made any resolutions before though..) tonite I have some regular spinach salad with asparagus, carrots and corn along with some wheat bread... sounds interesting haa... but wait, I didnt realize eating healthy could be so expensive... my this weeks grocery amounted to quite a significant bit.. no wonder those desi ready made stuff is so popular.. you know how desis are on expenditure.. my roomie gets worried if something is even 25 cents more than what he thought it was last week or yesterday... sometimes I think its fair enough as we are living on credit cards these days... but sometimes I just give a shrug and say what the hell you live just once... hope I will be able to continue eating better and stay away for those enticing chole bhature, etc...
P.S. : Dont worry I havent become a vegan.. No, not yet!! :)

Got up pretty late this morning.. and for some reason took a little peak out on the window and my tooth brush almost fell out of my mouth... it was all white outside.. it had snowed last night.. i stood there staring out the window.. it was a precious moment.. my neighbor's kid was already out building his first snowman of the season.. his dog on the leash jumping around.. watching him there i realized what i had missed..
staying away from your loved ones.. missing the moments of life.. you will never know if it will be the same ever again.. you never know if the moments will be there when you are there.. you never know if your loved ones will be there when you are there.. oh it is such a depressing thought.. why cant life be simpler.. simple as those innocent snow flakes.. ever so gentle.. nevertheless, amidst the hustle bustle of life the thought that your loved ones are always there in your heart no matter what you do and where you are gives me comfort and cheers me..
Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell are on the radio...
Listen, baby
Ain't no mountain high
Ain't no valley low
Ain't no river wide enough, baby
If you need me, call me
No matter where you are
No matter how far
Just call my name
I'll be there in a hurry
You don't have to worry...
i wish that could be true...
for now I think i will leave my curatins open for the rest of the day...
ciao..

its been raining cats and dogs since last week here in north east states.. but thats not the reason why i am jotting this post.. i am pretty well tucked in new jersey now.. have had my shares of cooking during past couple of days.. looks like i have lost the touch.. if you would ask nami, kailash and rakesh.. they know what i am talking about..
anyways i made some chicken curry the other day and felt straight out of place.. forgot to add lot of stuff, oil was overheated, masalas not correct amount, etc.. talked to kavi later that day and told her about losing the magic.. she said i never really had it.. it was quite funny.. anyways my roomie just went ballistic over the chicken and said it was awesome but kris hya said he might have been acting polite.. anyways it was some consolation though...
tonite i made some spinach and feeling lazy instead of making the daal as well, i thought i should make some gravy with the spinach so that we could have it with rice.. but i didnt really know how this would turn out as i had never made this sort of thing.. but having a south indian roomie my kitchen has always some of those coconut milk stacked away.. and i decided to mix both north and south indian recipe.. so there comes the coconut..
after finishing off one of my other friends peeks into the kitchen and says,"whats that.. never seen anything like that.." ofcourse he meant the spinach.. hehe..
it got me worried.. but being a rung that i am i had it and it wasnt all that bad as it seemed to be.. and my southie roomie went ga ga over it... he said he never liked the spinach his mom cooked at home but he really loved this one... now who could beat that.. hehe.. you could tell he wasnt just being polite this time as the two of us finished the whole two bags of spinach curry (that usually feeds 5 in birmingham and 8 in boston)..
i guess i still have it in me.. feel like patting myself.. :)

New Jersey would be my new home for couple of months.. Got here this afternoon.. journey wasnt all that bad... 6 hours from Boston... I am here to join a consultancy company that will train me for a few weeks and then market me for various projects available.. have a new room mate from south India.. He is pretty cool and easy going.. we should get along fine... accommodations are better than expected and the good thing is we have a broadband connection at the apartment so I should be able to do my Rung Mung duties on a regular basis.. went out to explore the place... my roomie has a car so it was pretty easy.. looks like this area Plainsboro in New Jersey is fested with Indian and Chinese community alike.. a whole lot of Indian restaurents and stores in the vicinity... crown india, Masala grill, etc.. went out to check out one of the places.. Flavor of India..
It was Dinner buffet.. we were the only ones there.. so didnt knew if the food was leftover from lunch or fresh.. any way had some... even though the place looked exotic and lavish food was mediocre... might not go back again...
Feeling a little lonely.. i think it will get better from tomorrow.... i think i will hit the bed now.. its been long since i slept at 11.00.. its too early for me..
ciao..

read about kailash's bday blast... and my heart twitched.. brought back old memories.. I think Kailash's was the only birthday that was celeberated in Dharchula/Darchula when we were growing up... kailash was a celeberity in his own right and I was among the few previleged ones that got to attend his bdays year after year.. at times we would wonder if they could have the party atleast more than once a year..

I dont think we knew what bdays meant or why they were celeberated.. all we were interested in the delicacies kailash's mom would cook.. and yes the cake most of all.. even though most of the time they would be make shift cakes made with halwa(suji), etc.. but it was heaven for us..
as for me celebrating my own bdays.. i really never cared about it.. but i do still remember one funny little incident when i was in nainital staying in a private hostel.. we used to call her rana aunty.. i dont know for some unknown reasons my fufus and didis have been celeberating my bdays on 15th of august(not that its the correct date).. but anyways.. being a holiday we were all at the hostel and after lunch we were required to take a nap... but all of a sudden my fufus(bindu and chanda and couple of their friends) showed up.. they used to attend dsb college (kumaon univ) in nainital.. they wanted to take us (kavita di and myself) to town to celebrate my bday(well that was the plan)..
they wanted to keep it a secret from me but rana aunty being rana aunty wouldnt allow me to go out that particular day.. and after much coaxing and cajoling she finally agreed only after she was told about the plans but then the cat was already out of the bag... whew.. i almost missed my own bday party.. imagine that.. and man.. it was some party... i think i still have some of those pics.. it was the only bday party i ever had untill last year before last finally here in states.. well it had become more of a tradition in birmingham to take everyone out on dinner on bdays... i think it is more of an excuse to get out of the daily monotonous routine.. but whatever it is.. it sure is fun.. thats the bottom line... bdays rock...

its been a while since I had my morning tea in morning.. its 12 pm here in boston and half of my roomies are still asleep and half at work, school, etc..
Puran Hya, Ravi and myself are watching food network(not that we watch food network that often).. guess whats cooking today.. indian sweets.. barfi and samai with special chai... :)
was wondering if baare, marjya and charta shya or perhaps shile kuto will ever be made in food network... would the food network chefs ever swoon on the exotic tastes of rung land.. the aroma, the delicacies.. the world is not aware of what they are missing.. :)..

Yesterday was the official start of the fall season... and we have begun to feel it.. its been suddenly a little chill even during the day... time to get the jackets and turtle necks out... thoughts of snowfall send a shiver down the spine... i am sure we will have plenty of snow this fall... another ski trip on hand.. umm...
getting used to Boston traffic... today was the first day I drove out to work... wasnt all that bad... traffic here is horrofic... nothing I am used to... I miss Birmingham streets... its so much nosier and crowded here... perks of being in a big city... it does remind of delhi a little bit... horns blowing all over the place...
baseball is at the peak of its season and with 8 more games to go to decide on who goes to the play off... and it will be helluva 8 days... to top it off the last three games is against the yankees.. hmm... everyone is at the edge of their seats with Yankess leading with half game to lead the division..
watchin animal planet at the moment... rattle snakes on screen.. i hate reptiles... scared.. ya i m .. hehe..
good nite folks...
